Can you use Lightning Cleanze to clean metal street and shop signs?

Can you use Benz Lightning Cleanze to clean metal street and shop signs, and if so how can you best treat metal signs safely?

The answer is Yes, if I a metal sign has a PVC or similar protective coating then it should be safe to treat it. Usually a dilution of 10:1 will be as strong as is needed. At this strength Lightning Cleanze is not classified as corrosive even to bare metals.

Commercial signage will be designed to withstand the powerful oxidation effects of strong sunlight and atmospheric salt. This will be especially true if the sign is located near the coast, because a local sign-maker should have taken these factors into account.

To be super-safe however, we suggest taking the following precautions:

  • Apply Lightning Cleanze at 10:1 dilution at first, which may be as strong as needed, and don't increase the dilution strength until you know the results.

  • As much as possible avoid treating metal signs in hot direct sunlight. And if the sign appears to be too hot – enough to cause boil-off for example – cool it by spraying with fresh water before treating it with Lightning Cleanze.

  • As a general rule, pre and post post-rinsing – as you would for windows and frames when treating render for example – is good working practice.

We hope this information is helpful and sincerely wish you great success in your soft washing business,
