Why can white patches appear on soft washed pebble-dash render?

Why can white patches appear on softwashed pebble-dash render?

Before being soft washed, the areas of pebble-dash render where pebbles have been removed will likely have been "camouflaged" by the general colonisation.

The soft wash treatment will have removed the camouflaging colonisation, exposing the newly cleaned (pebble-free) render underneath.

You may also notice "clean" patches on some other renders which have weathered over a number of years. A common area where this can occur is immediately under window sills.

The render under a window sill may be very clean looking compared to the rest of the wall even after all the render has been treated. This is because the render under the sill is somewhat protected from weathering and so does not discolour as much.

There’s also the possibility that pebbles have been dislodged by high pressure washing and/or brushing too hard with a stiff bristle brush.
