A customer asked us: "I put Benz Oxy Cleanze on a client's lead flashing. It's come up very bright and from a distance looks white. Is that normal?"
We replied that Benz Oxy Cleanze:
Sodium hypochlorite stains on lead are best treated with Oxy Cleanze asap after the staining has occurred.
Oxy Cleanze should not be left on lead longer than advised on the label. Whitening can be the result of it being left on lead flashing for too long.
To reverse the whitening of lead we suggest giving the lead flashing a light rub with Scotch-Brite, or the mildly abrasive pads sold for pot and pan cleaning.
Health & Safety: Always wear appropriate PPE to protect yourself from inhaling lead dust, or absorbing it through your skin.
An Oxy Cleanze treatment can be followed up with an application of "patination oil" which can be bought from most builders merchants.
This treatment will bring back the dull grey colour of lead that your customers are used to seeing, and will also help protect the lead from further staining.
We hope this information is helpful and sincerely wish you great success in your soft washing business,

It's a free resource for people wanting to learn about the soft washing industry, to expand an existing business, or build a new business.
Soft washing reduces, or even eliminates, the need to use high-pressure washing.
Instead, once the build up of algae, lichen, fungus and mould – the root causes of properties looking "dirty" – has been treated, the natural "self-cleansing" of sun, rain and wind removes the surface residue through time.
By educating the cleaning trade and public about soft washing we are helping develop an industry that offers sustainable treatments to clean and maintain exterior hard surfaces.
