What's the best temperature to apply Benz Bio Cleanze biocide?
A customer asked about soft washing with Bio Cleanze biocide:
1) Is there a minimum temperature for soft washing with biocide?
2) Is there a maximum temperature for soft washing with biocide?
3) If so, what effect would it have if we used outside this temperature range?
There are many variables, including the long-term effects of "self-cleansing" through the actions of sun, wind and rain, which happens faster in warm weather, to take into account.
The optimum temperature for soft washing with Bio Cleanze biocide
We recommend spraying above 7/8 degrees C and below 30 if at all possible. This temperature range gives the most consistent results.
20 degrees is the optimum application temperature and we have generic test data that was carried out at 20 degrees.
However, there's some scope for using Bio Cleanze outside of this range, depending on the weather and type of surface being treated.
Applying Bio Cleanze biocide in hot weather
Applying above 30 degrees can create boil-off issues. To offset this in conditions of extreme heat:
- spray early morning or late evening to utilise the cooler temperatures
- hose down the surface with cold tap water just prior to treating, which will help take some of the heat out of it
Applying Bio Cleanze biocide in cold weather
In general it's best not to use Bio Cleanze below 7/8 degrees. This is because below this temperature the product may not work consistently at the dilution rates we recommend on the product label and other material.
However, the good news is that applying Bio Cleanze at lower temperatures will not have a detrimental effect on the surface being treated. It will just take longer to show results.
Quick tips: We've successfully used Bio Cleanze at lower temperatures, down to as low as 4 degrees, by following these guidelines:
1. Plan your working day so that the product is applied at or just before the warmest part of the day. This can work particularly well on days that are cold but when there is direct sunlight.
2. Use warm water, max 45 degrees, to dilute Bio Cleanze before spraying.
3. Use a slightly stronger mix ratio than stated on the application guides, i.e. the mix ratio you would use in warmer weather.
